We all know the 90s was a decade of awesomeness for all the most important aspects of life: video-games (the original PlayStation and Tekken came out), fashion (I’ve got one word for you: chokers), music (where do I even start?!), cartoons (Batman, South Park and Daria anyone?), TV (back when MTV was an actual MUSIC channel!) and of course the many magnificent movies.

Talking about movies there is one that not only endured the test of time beautifully, but it also spawned 3 sequels, a TV series by the same name, gave the idea for the hilarious Scary Movie franchise (which it was also, don’t know if by coincidence, the working title of this flick), and single handedly revived the Horror genre, re-jazzed its director’s career and it is to this day one of the highest grossing Slasher movies of all times. The film I'm talking about, just in case you missed the headline and the poster, is of course: Scream.

One of the best opening in Horror history.
PictureThe cameo that totally went over my head: Linda Blair as the reporter.
Even if you have never seen Scream, I actually know some people that amazingly haven’t, unless you were cryogenically frozen for the last 20 years, you gotta know the plot.

A psycho killer terrorizes a bunch of teenagers in the small town of Woodsboro, chatting on the phone with them about Horror flicks and then slaughtering them in the most possible sloppy and bloody ways.

The whole movie is saturated with classic Horror easter eggs (characters names, songs, scenes and even just one-liners) with more than just a pinch of comedy, but also manages to have many seriously scary and creepy moments and we cannot possibly forget the cameos. Personally the best one has to be Wes Craven playing Fred the school janitor who was also wearing a Freddy Krueger jumper and fedora.

The beautiful cast.

The reason why this movie is a favorite in the Horror community isn’t hard to guess. The cast is saturated with well known and loved major and minor actors literally from start to finish.

Drew Barrymore, the one that was sold as the star of the flick, dying in the first 10 minutes makes you realize Scream is not as predictable as you might have thought, no one is safe and you can’t really guess where the plot is going.

Blood + humor is always a winning combination and the many plot twist are a very cleverly done. Special shout out to Randy, the movie freak guy, that talks so much sense, is one of my favorite people simply because HE IS US!

Iconic.
This is a Horror movie that mocks every possible scary movie cliche while still managing to be nerve-racking, original, eerie and credible. All around perfect movies like Scream don’t happen every day, my friend!

10/10

Let's be honest, not everything in the 90s was gold - The Blair Witch Project was a steaming pile of shite which I single handedly blame for all the shaky camera movie that followed.

Ok, Ok, Super Mario Bros ain't a Golden Globes winner, but can we at least classify it as 'So bad is good'? No? Alright, I can't argue with that either...

In 1991 I'm not ashamed to say didn't even know of the existence of this kind of music, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying classics such as Efil4Zaggin aka Niggaz4Life by NWA even now.
