Moorhaven was one of the first band's I discovered after starting Ronon's Reviews back in 2015. I covered their early and still excellent second EP Modern Truths and even a live set at Camden's Black Heart not long after, where they put on an unforgettable show.
Unfortunately since then, my eyes and ears have wondered far and wide, searching for new bands and interesting sounds. I always tried to keep an eye on them through social media over the years, but always found myself busy working on a review or some other project. But after seeing a Facebook post the other week where Moorhaven announced that they had signed to Spitfire Management and also released 'Land Of Lies' in May of this year, I knew I had to share what I'd heard.
Moorhaven's sound in 2015 was squarely rooted in the Melodic Metal category, but was always pretty close to Metalcore, but 'Land Of Lies' shows the Plymouth 5 piece have moved over to the latter with gusto but still with their signature Melodic element. The mix of vocal styles in the track work great and the guitars are some of the group's best stuff ever. The drumming is outstanding and bass kills it also. There is nothing I'm not loving on 'Land Of Lies', the whole tune fits together perfectly, but still leaves you begging the question of "when will we get more?"
Fortunately for you, we have the answer. After a quick chat with the band over the weekend we were told to expect the Daydreamer EP sometime a little later this year, fingers crossed it's soon rather than later!
For me this is the best track to either get into Moorhaven, or even as the gateway to get back into them. It shows off the band's immense skills perfectly and is catchy as hell, if this music is your scene then i think you'll definitely be digging 'Land of Lies'. 9/10 Written by Dan.
