Skindred’s 6th studio album Volume shows the Welsh 5 piece is nowhere near slowing down after yet another brilliant album showcasing their amazing talent to mix so many genres together.
I’ve been a Skindred fan ever since I saw them live at the O2 Islington in support of aussie rockers Karnivool back in 2009. Even had a few drunken words with the band after the show out the front of the venue. But I was mesmerized by the heavy rock sound mixed with the ska, the reggae and hip hop. It was a breath of fresh air at the time and still is now. So when I heard a month ago that they were releasing an album before the year was out I got a little excited all over again and patiently waited.
Volume dropped 30th of October and is having a good run at the moment having débuted on the iTunes chart at 55. 'Under Attack' is the first standout track for me and as the opener is just pure class, grabbing your attention from the first moment and never letting go by mixing metal guitars, reggae style vocals and some catchy riffs. 'Hit the Ground' also stands out as the future crowd pleasing sing along before heavy guitars kick in for the mandatory head banging. 'Straight Jacket' is another highlight with its high energy thrash that just makes you want to go crazy and break something.
Ever since 2009 I’ve been following Skindred on and off and never been disappointed by what they release, and Volume is no exception.
Full of energy, aggression, awesome riffs and mad vocals this is yet another feather in Benji Webbe’s pimp hat (you need to see them live). Even though I’m sadly missing their gig at Brixton this year I implore any already established fans and music fans in general, give serious thought to seeing Skindred live. They are at their best on stage and I know this album will be amazing live.
