A stubborn, egotistic, genius with a high end sports car.
No, we’re not talking about Tony Stark.

Marvel continues to push the envelope with not just follow up instalments to already cemented storylines, but introductory stand alone films such as Doctor Strange. This time around we are thrown into an ambitious landscape composed of mystical characters, sorcery and multiple dimensions; truly an ambitious undertaking.
Right out the gate; Kaecilius (a wizard) and his group make their way into an enclave where they murder a librarian and steal pages from a magic book that belongs to a sorcerer known as the Ancient One.

In New York, Doctor Stephen Strange is an acclaimed neurosurgeon with a photographic memory and living the life of a superstar. His perfect world comes to tragic end in the form of a nearly fatal car accident that renders him disabled and ultimately puts an ends to the lavish life he had going.

What... the... flying fuck... am I looking at?!?
After undergoing multiple experimental surgeries, in what seems like a final and desperate attempt to heal himself, Strange is led to a journey in Nepal to find a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. It’s in Kamar-Taj where Strange is introduced to the Ancient One and is then compelled to reset his mind in order to find new meaning in ways he never imagined.

Top star performer: Tilda Swinton.

The performances are solid all around. Particularly Tilda Swinton gives a phenomenal performance as the Ancient One.

Coming from a Horror background, the direction by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil) is up to par with Marvel’s standards. My only complaints are a few instances of missed punch lines and some minor attempts at slapstick; which I believe are intended for the 13 and under crowd.

I must admit that usually this type of mystical territory is not very appealing to me, but for the most part I found this one to be both engaging and entertaining.

So if you’re at all curious, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

7.5 /10

AJT is on fire this week! See what he thought of the movie that a lot of people call the best of the year: Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival.

Superhero movies are so popular these days I feel like there's one coming out every month. And I'm pretty sure they are all better than Suicide Squad.

Going to the movies is a lot of hassle, especially when it's cold af. Thank god there's plenty of TV series out there, and one of the best is hands down The Exorcist.
