Happy to share some hometown love!
Being based in London means I struggle to keep up with all the bands my hometown produces. Sure, I have my brother and a few good mates that share and let me know who has a great sound from time to time. But in this case it was pure luck that I stumbled across Make Them Suffer, a five piece Deathcore band, on Twitter and when I saw they were from Perth I just had to give them a listen, plus since they released Worlds Apart only just last year, I thought I'd do one better and share my findings!
Straight off the bat, I love the singing on Worlds Apart, sure Metalcore and Deathcore utilize clean and unclean vocals and it works, but here there is an awesome extra added element with the almost hymn like backing done by keyboardist Booka Nile and it just sounds sublime.
That's not to say the other aspects of the album are lacking in any way, it's quite the opposite; everything on Worlds Apart is top notch and on point. Another big winner for me is the Symphonic Deathcore component, it is quite beautiful to hear, the piano and keyboards take it to a completely different level. Need more convincing? check out the tracks 'The First Movement' 'Vortex (Interdimensional Spiral Hindering Inexplicable Euphoria)' and 'Power Overwhelming'.
To really make it in the music industry, I've noticed you need one of two things; to be on top of your game and/ or bring something a bit different to the table, and Make Them Suffer has done both for me on this record.
This is my first real look into Deathcore as a genre and I've enjoyed it that much I might stay and check it out a little more.
