The Kings of Flint blew the kids of London away.
I'd been waiting 2 years for this night.
If you need a refresher of who King 810 are you can read all about their debut album Memoirs of a Murderer, and their awesome follow up La Petite Mort.
Today I just want to heap praise on the band from Flint Michigan because “they came, they saw, they kicked fucking arse!”. Underworld in Camden was the site and we walked out thoroughly entertained and blown away. But it wasn’t just King 810, they had Courtesans and Death Blooms in support who were also faultless.
Death Blooms were up first and the band from Liverpool/Manchester warmed us up amazingly with their take on Alt Metal. I honestly could have watched a full set from these guys and they definitely raised a few eyebrows that night.
After a quick stage setup, Courtesans had their turn and the all woman Doom-Pop (Rock? Metal? honestly I have no idea other than it was good) band brought their A game. I was transfixed the whole time and will be reviewing their latest EP next week so keep an eye out for that.
Another break ensued but it wasn't as long as most headliners take to set up, before we knew it, drummer Andrew Workman, then the bassist Eugene Gill and then finally David Gunn burst to the stage and owned it unquestionably.
Great song choices help a band, but their presence onstage really boosts them to the next level and that is what we saw that night. We had a drummer that never held back, a bassist who couldn't stop jumping around the stage and a singer who made sure all eyes were on him throughout the show.
Guitarist Andrew Beal was noticeably missing due to a travel ban after a run in with the law, he was replaced not by a another musician but with his own recorded riffs - fitting. The set list was amazing, all the group’s hard and heavy hits and none of their slower or laid back stuff, but that’s ok, it was a Metal night after all.
I've been waiting to see King 810 ever since Norman introduced me to them back in April of 2016 and they didn’t let me down. Ok, it wasn’t the whole band but that couldn’t be helped, and they did the best they could with what they had, which was awesome.
If you love your Metal with hard hitting gangster lyrics and an awesome stage presence, then King 810 is the band for you!
