This review has a strong language warning, just like the film.Let’s start this by saying right off the bat, Deadpool 2is the summer blockbuster of the motherfucking year. You might have heard it’s better than the original? It’s true. Believe it or not, this sequel has it all: humour, touching moments, a cool as fuck soundtrack, great fight scenes and some actually half decent CGI. I’m going to try and not drop any spoilers below, but ye been warned! Deadpool 2 kicks things off two years after the first film and it all seems to be going well for the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ until one fateful night turns everything around (which I won’t mention how or why here).
![]() Whoever was in charge of casting should get a raise and be hired for all of Tinsel Town’s films from now on: Ryan Reynolds was never a doubt to reprise this role which is now his until the universe ends... next week some time (some whackjob somewhere will be claiming it’ll end). Josh Brolin’s Cable is the perfect straight laced character to DP's insanity and I look forward to seeing the two together again. TJ Miller has his moments with the laughs and Julian Dennison holds his own extremely well with Hollywood's big boys. But it was the relatively unknown Zazie Beetz and her portrayal of Domino that stole the show for me. I can’t say Deadpool 2 is visually stunning, but neither was it shite, the mix of CGI and real world locations worked well and I won’t be crapping on them. The soundtrack though was great, it has a mixture of blood pumpers and old skool classics that add an extra bit of humour. ![]() So there you have it, I’ve broken the film down, now you need to get off your ass and see it. Why? Because A. it’s a great story that will keep you entertained while building upon the first and setting up its own franchise, but 2. and more importantly it’s fucking funny as shit. Way better than the original (which still ranks high for me) and well worth the price of admission. Even if you didn’t enjoy the first Deadpool (looking at you T-Ball!) give this a chance.
