Some people are saying A Day To Remember’s new album Bad Vibrations cements their place as the kings of metalcore. I say bullshit

I’m glad I finally got the chance to review A Day To Remember record, I’ve known of them for years but never really heard much of their stuff besides the singles that are all over the Rock and Metal airwaves here in the UK and to be fair most of the said singles are pretty decent and hard hitting.

Which is probably why I was disappointed with Bad Vibrations, the Florida 5 piece’s 6th studio album, while it had some Metalcore tracks, I never realised they were also a Pop Punk band, which I’m not so keen on and it’s a big part of their sound and Bad Vibrations.
PictureTry to guess the Pop Punk half and the Metalcore half!
Bad Vibrations starts off with the title track ‘Bad Vibrations’ which didn’t really impress me too much, I mean it’s a decent opener, maybe I expected more.

‘Paranoia’ was a bit more up my alley, very reminiscent of Avenged Sevenfold, aggressive and I love the guitars here.

‘Reassemble’ has to be my personal favourite off Bad Vibrations, it’s A Day To Remember at their Metalcore finest to start off with, I mean real balls to the wall stuff, before slowing it down for the finale.

Now just to switch it up a bit, I’ll single out something I wasn’t too fond of, ‘Forgive and Forget’ is near the end of the album, where the band sounds like they’re perhaps toying with styles or trying something new and to me it just doesn’t work, ‘Forgive and Forget’ is a slow and almost whiny track and really doesn’t fit in with the rest.

PictureBefore this album I was thinking of checking these guys out live, think I'll pass now.
Why I’ve rattled off most of what I liked about Bad Vibrations, the truth is I was far from impressed. I’d kept on hearing how they are this amazing, one of the best in the world Metalcore group, while I can’t deny they have some brilliant skills, the fact they are on their 6th album can attest to that.

I just feel the way they are presented on Bad Vibrations was all wrong. They describe themselves as a Metalcore/Pop Punk group and in my head I was thinking something along the lines of Beartooth which combines Core with Punk perfectly, sadly I was wrong.

What it means is they don’t combine those two genres in their music, they do both and have a spilt album. So next time A Day To Remember release an album I won’t be dropping everything to get my hands on it like I did for Bad Vibrations, in fact I might just miss it altogether.

5/10

I thought I'd throw Asking Alexandria's The Black in only because we'll be seeing them live soon with Parkway Drive.
