When the cover is better than the original...

"Hannah and Leo have amazing voices [...] and when it's added to Rabea's epic shredding, you have yourself a winner..."

Over the years I've come across Leo Moracchioli on YouTube countless times, his Metal covers of popular songs are brilliant. The man is a massively talented musician and he will feature in this series as we go on, but today I want to share with you guys one of his best (in my opinion): Tones and I's 'Dance Monkey'.
'Dance Monkey' was a huge hit for Aussie artist Tones and I, she released it in May of 2019 and pretty soon it was topping official singles charts in over 30 countries. So it is safe to say it's a pretty big song, but I think Leo's version is better.

Rabea Massaad
Normally Leo does everything on his own, instruments, singing, all the mixing and so on, but every now and then he brings in some help, for 'Dance Monkey' it's guitarist Rabea Massaad and singer Hannah Boulton, and between the three of them they create one of the best covers of all time.

They haven't changed a single lyric, nor have they done anything more drastic than shift the genre to Metal, you might now be asking "what makes this so good then?", and if you had waited a few seconds I would have told you.

It's the singing, both Hannah and Leo have amazing voices: either on their own, backing one another, or straight up in a duet, these two have amazing chemistry, and when it's added to Rabea's epic shredding, you have yourself a winner.

I discovered Leo and Co's version of 'Dance Monkey' back in January, and there hasn't been a week where I haven't played it on repeat for hours, for me it's a fun and infectious song that I have in my ears for days, Tones and I's original doesn't do that for me.
9/10

"Stone Sour's version of 'Wicked Game' isn't too different from Chris Isaak's original, both are guitar driven ballads, with only the barest of minimums in the background, but Stone Sour's takes it even further"

"John Lennon's original was just him on an acoustic guitar while singing, Green Day took it a step further, while still retaining the initial ideals and message, but this time for a new generation."

"On the first listen, it sounds like the Architects didn't change much or even the style, and for the most part, you'd be right. But it's after several play throughs that the subtile differences become more pronounced"
