When the cover is better than the original...
Over the years I've come across Leo Moracchioli on YouTube countless times, his Metal covers of popular songs are brilliant. The man is a massively talented musician and he will feature in this series as we go on, but today I want to share with you guys one of his best (in my opinion): Tones and I's 'Dance Monkey'.
Who is Devin Townsend?
Devin Townsend is a Canadian musician focusing on Heavy Metal and Prog music. Devin founded the band Strapping Young Lad, performed lead vocals for Steve Vai, and released more than 23 albums from all his musical endeavors. Devin’s time with Steve Vai opened his eyes to the music industry, and Devin was not a huge fan. Devin felt as if he was being used and was a product of another’s imagination. Perhaps this is why all of his original works are so out of this world and unique. 'Better Below' makes the delay almost bearable.
Unfortunately for us, Bury Tomorrow's sixth studio album Cannibal has been pushed back from its original release date of the 3rd of April to at least the 3rd of July due to, yep, you guessed it... fucking Coronavirus - making it hard to ship out physical copies, and for the band to actually promote it. To make up for this, the Southampton five piece dropped the Better Below EP, which includes all the singles released so far and also a fourth, title track 'Better Below'. I would have preferred the full record, but any new music beats getting nothing at all.
Who is Northlane?
Northlane is a Metal band from Sydney, Australia which formed in 2009. They have four full length albums (Discoveries, Singularity, Node, Mesmer). Jordan and I will take a deep dive into their sophomore album, Singularity, which was released in 2013. One thing to note is that the members of the band have changed over the years. The biggest change would be the original vocalist, Adrian Fitipaldes, left in 2014. |
