Henceforth I'm promoting Mags to head of A&R!
A few weeks ago, Mags tagged me on Instagram of a video of a band doing a cover of Linkin Park’s ’From The Inside’, I was blown away, to say the least. The group in question was October Ends, a 4 piece Melodic Metalcore outfit from Newcastle, right here in the UK.
I downloaded their latest EP, A New Path straight away and I've been enjoying it since; can't say the rest of my workmates think the same, but screw 'em... they're not Metalheads, so they have no taste!
At only 6 tracks long, A New Path is an amazing audio experience for Metalcore fans. Every single song is outstanding and while they don't need to be heard several times to get the full effect, repeated listenings is most definitely on the menu.
The vocals are totally on point the whole way through, as are the guitars and drums. From start to finish, A New Path takes hold of your ears, demanding to be heard. The only toned down tune (ie a respite from the onslaught) is ’Memories Of’ which acts as a hauntingly beautiful violin led intro into the EP closer ’Living in Shadows’, which then kicks it back up into top gear, a must for music fans.
This is yet another case of social media (and my followers/friends) helping me discover awesomesauce bands.
It’s just a shame I didn't even know of their existence to see them live, A New Path was released last June, meaning that October Ends did a tour of the UK in the summer of 2017, but had to cut it short due to line-up situations.
But ever positive, the band informed me that instead of just resting on their laurels, they began working on the follow up which ”can be expected within the next year. New line-up, new material, heavier and more melodic than ever”, music to my ears!
'Living in Shadows' is the top pick off an amazing EP as a whole...
But I have to share the track that got me into October Ends, their cover of 'From The Inside'
