It's time for that "new year, new me" bullshit... am I right? While I think that's all a bunch a crap (If you want to start a diet, quit smoking, whatever - DO IT NOW!) one of my resolutions for the new year is going to see more live shows (concerts, comedy, theatre, anything!), and movies.
To give you an example of how behind I am, I still haven't watched It Chapter Two or Doctor Sleep, and I have seen Alita: Battle Angel only because it was on the plane on the very long flight to Australia. But in 2020 things have to go back to normal, so let's have a look at what's coming out in January.
"A house is cursed by a vengeful ghost that dooms those who enter it with a violent death."
"Just Mercy shadows world-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson as he recounts his experiences and details the case of a condemned death row prisoner whom he fought to free."
"A crew of aquatic researchers work to get to safety after an earthquake devastates their subterranean laboratory. But the crew has more than the ocean seabed to fear."
Bad Boys for Life
"The once inseparable duo of Marcus Burnett and Michael "Mike" Lowery is coming apart: an aging Burnett has become a police inspector while Lowery, suffering a midlife crisis, is assigned to head up AMMO, a "young guns" group of millennial cops with whom he has nothing in common. Both of them reunite once again when a fierce Romanian mob boss, whose brother they defeated years earlier, makes a retaliation effort on Mike just as both he and Marcus are about to officially retire."
Crime, Action, Drama, Dark Comedy
"The film follows American expat Mickey Pearson who has created a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he is looking to cash out his business, it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him."
The Rhythm Section
"The Rhythm Section is an international spy thriller that follows the story of Stephanie Patrick, a woman who seeks to uncover the truth behind a plane crash that killed her family three years earlier. Patrick was also meant to be on the flight. After she discovers that the crash was not accidental, she embarks on a mission to track down those responsible by assuming the identity of an assassin."
Weathering with You AKA 天気の子
Animation, Drama, Fantasy
"The film is set in Japan during a period of exceptionally rainy weather and tells the story of a high school boy who runs away to Tokyo and befriends an orphan girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather."
"After losing his wife seven years earlier, the eccentric John Dolittle, famed doctor and veterinarian of Victorian England, hermits himself away behind the high walls of Dolittle Manor with only his menagerie of animals for company. But when Queen Victoria falls gravely ill, a reluctant Dolittle is forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure, regaining his wit and courage as he crosses old adversaries and encounters wondrous creatures."
Like a Boss
"Two female friends with very different ideals decide to start a beauty company together. One is more practical, while the other wants to earn her fortune and live a lavish lifestyle."
"At the height of the First World War in northern France, two young British soldiers, Schofield and Blake, are given a seemingly impossible mission to deliver a message which will warn of an ambush during one of the skirmishes soon after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich. The pair must give their all to accomplish their mission by surviving the war to end all wars."
