When we first started comprising this list, we had over 20 albums reported to be coming out in May. But as we looked into each release, more than a few had been pushed back, leaving us with 11 confirmed and 2 TBA.

We should get used to this I suppose, since nothing is going to change anytime soon.

Glue
Boston Manor

Label:
Pure Noise Records

Genre:
Pop
Punk

I normally throw Pop Punk under the bus, but it sounds like Boston Manor are getting serious with their third album Glue, with singer Henry Cox describing lead single 'Everything Is Ordinary' as "is about how we’re desensitised to all of these major major problems that exist in the world today. We’ve seen literally everything so nothing really strikes us as worrying or scary anymore and, essentially, everything is ordinary to us."

He went on to say, “I was mostly thinking about the environmental crisis when we wrote this but it does apply to a lot of things that are happening right now.”

Like a House on Fire
Asking Alexandria

Label:
Sumerian

Genre:
Pop Metal?

I used to really love Asking Alexandria, the strength of The Black helped me get into the Metalcore genre fully, plus it was an awesome bounce back for the band after singer Danny left.

But since Danny Worsnop's return they have gone in a direction that I'm not digging, as you can tell from my review of their recent single 'Antisocialist'.

How I'm Feeling Now
Charli XCX

Picture

Label:
Atlantic
Asylum

Genre:
Pop
Dance

The fourth studio album by the British Pop star was created in collaboration mainly with her fans that helped with demos, song ideas and artwork. The project was announced in a live Zoom session to her followers where she stated "I’m gonna use this isolation time to make a brand new album from scratch. The nature of this album is gonna be very indicative of the times, just because I’m only gonna be able to use the tools that I have at my fingertips to create all music, all artwork, videos, everything. In that sense, it will be very ‘DIY.’ I will also be reaching out to people online to collaborate with, and I’ll be keeping the entire process super open..."
Also involved in the record are producers A. G. Cook and BJ Burton.

Van Weezer
Weezer

Label:
Crush Music
Atlantic

Genre:
Hard Rock

Long gone are the days of 'Buddy Holly', for their fourteenth studio album Weezer are giving you Hard Rock. Returning to a sound similar to their fourth release Maladroit from 2002, Van Weezer has been heavily inspired by 1970s and 1980s bands such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, Metallica and Van Halen.

Weezer were also supposed to kick off the Hella Mega Tour in May with Green Day and Fall Out Boy (plus The Interrupters for the North American dates and Amyl And The Sniffers for Europe), but it has been postponed until god knows when.

Species
Crossfaith

Picture

Label:
UNFD

Genre:
Metalcore
Electronicore

Species might be only 5 songs long, but according to vocalist Kenta Koie it is a pretty big deal for the Japanese Metal group “I believe this EP will set the course for the band for the next 10 years. We’ve already started making more new music. We’re not going to stop.”
Tracklist as follows:
  1. 'Digital Parasite'
  2. 'Endorphin'
  3. 'Truth Of Insanity'
  4. 'None Of Your Business' feat. Jin Dogg
  5. 'Your Song'

But that's not all! The release will also include a DVD with 7 live tracks recorded at the Pol'and'Rock Festival in 2019 plus a small treat:
  1. 'Monolith'
  2. 'The Perfect Nightmare'
  3. 'Kill 'Em All'
  4. 'Make A Move'
  5. 'Drum Solo'
  6. 'Freedom'
  7. 'Countdown To Hell'
  8. Exclusive Music Video for 'Milestone'

True Love Waits
The Coronas

The Coronas' True Love Waits album cover

Label:
SoFarSoGood Records

Genre:
Indie Rock

It's hard being a band sometimes, you have to work your ass off night after night, write tunes that reach the masses, not sell out... we can go on forever. Having to deal with a world changing event that shares your name shouldn't be on that list, but here we are.

So what's the award winning Irish Indie Rock band The Coronas to do? Ask Corona Beer for advice? they've done that. Ask The Vaccines to co-headline a tour after all this? they should, it'd be hilarious. In all seriousness, they're actually dropping their 6th studio album True Love Waits, before waiting patiently to start their tour... with The Vaccines (pleases make this happen!).

Curse of the Crystal Coconut
Alestorm

Picture

Label:
Napalm Records

Genre:
Pirate Metal

When asked about the the single 'Treasure Chest Party Quest' off their upcoming 6th studio album Curse of the Crystal Coconut, Alestorm, the Scottish Pirate Metal band responded with: "We tried our very best to make a video that would alienate as many of our fans as possible. I think we succeeded! This song is about giving birth to yourself, selling out, and driving awful Yugoslavian cars. All the classic elements of pirate metal!"
And that's all ye need to know.

Imploding the Mirage
The Killers

The Killers Imploding the Mirage

Label:
Island

Genre:
Rock

On Imploding the Mirage's first single, singer and band leader Brandon Flowers said: "It's sort of about having the wherewithal to listen to that angel on your shoulder, even if they're telling you something that you don't want to hear. And I think for me, this song was a lot about leaving Las Vegas. I was having this sort of hunch or impression that that was something that I was supposed to do for my family. And it was hard for me... And so it was tough for me to leave, and I thought I was able to harness that energy, and there was a sort of a relief when it happened, and you kind of feel that the spirit in 'Caution'."

Project: Regeneration Vol. 1
Static-X

Static-X Project Regeneration Vol 1

Label:
Otsego Entertainment Group

Genre:
Nu-Metal
Industrial Metal
Evil Disco

Project: Regeneration Vol. 1 will be a collection of previously unreleased Static-X tracks, with most of them either early demos or from the Start A War era. All of the songs have had their instruments re-recorded, while leaving Wayne's original vocals. Only 'Bled for Days' and 'Push It' will feature new singer Xer0.

The reason this title is called Volume 1 is because they found over twenty unused songs, and intend to release Volume 2 in the near future with another 10 tracks.

Fracture
Bleed From Within

Bleed From WIthin Fractures album cover

Label:
Century Media Records

Genre:
Melodic Metalcore

Some of the albums in this post are a little tentative, we're not sure if the band/artist will delay the release or not. But, we are sure of Bleed From Within's Fracture, with the Glaswegians taking to their social media profiles to confirm that they will go ahead with the record's initial date. I've had a chance to check out the two lead singles 'Into Nothing' and 'The End of All We Know' and I'm impressed with what I've heard.

Dates to be Announced
