Salvatore today managed to have a chat with RYU, formerly leader and vocalist of the traditional Japanese Rock band OROCHI, that since disbanding after 15 years, started his solo project in 2019 called SOMEI YOSHINO.
Salvatore: Firstly, could you please let us know something about your band?
RYU: Somei Yoshino is Singer RYU’s solo project. The music is a mixture of Japanese Traditional music and Western Hard Rock! It contains Japanese flute “Shinobue“, Japanese harp “Koto” and so on! The show is theatrical. It has influences from Noh and Kabuki (Japanese musical) and Samurai sword performance!

S: How have you been handling the current Covid-19 crisis and its quarantine?
R: I am staying at home and composing music and watching the TV drama The 100 (Netflix) and I also do YouTube live every Sunday at 22:00 (Japan Standard Time).

S: What made you choose the life of music?
R: I thought I am genius!

S: Have you ever thought about your music journey?
Sorry I don’t get this "Travel of music", But I would like to go abroad for composing, it will be fun.

S: Any new content (album, track) coming out soon?
R: I am planing to upload a new music video on YouTube, which will be a really great video. The song is called ‘Yubikiri’, it means promise or cutting finger or curing xxxx. The song’s story is based on Abe Sada, you can find information on Wikipedia, but the gist is: she killed her lover in olden times by a strange way, because she loved her lover too much and did not want to lose them.

My newest video on YouTube is ‘USUBENI’, it is based on Genji Monogatari, one of the oldest love stories in Japanese Imperial court. ‘Yubikiri’ is totally different from this! Much more bloody heavier!

S: Can you let us know something about your last album and some songs what was released?
R: Album Title Gion
1. 'YUUGEN' - It is guitar instruments!
2. 'YUBIKIRI'
3. 'USUBENI'
4. 'Chimi Mouryo' - This song is heavy and I'm singing about a ghost and a beast!
5.  'GION' - It has a music video on YouTube!

S: Do you plan to tour? (If yes, can you mention some of the cities you plan to visit?)

R: I had some invitations from Europe, but it is not going to happen with this situation. I really like to tour anywhere in the world!

S: Can we know something about you?
R: I like cats, I want to find a cute one. But I don't want my cat to mess my room!

S: Do you have a message for your fans?
R: Hi there! I have toured so many countries on the Earth! It is really difficult to go again now, but we can meet on YouTube! Please visit my YouTube channel on Sunday nights 22:00 (JST)!
